Code of conduct

Our community is built on mutual respect, kindness, and a shared passion for data science. Be respectful and remember that there’s a human on the other side of the screen.

While we don’t have our own separate code of conduct, we follow the Python Software Foundation’s Code of Conduct. Please read the “Inappropriate Behavior” section to understand what we consider unacceptable.

In addition to the behaviors outlined in the Python Software Foundation’s code, these examples are inappropriate in our community:

• Judging the question or the person asking the question (“this is a stupid question and everyone who can read docs knows the answer”)
• Soliciting any kind of personal information (such as marital status, sexual orientation, phone number, address, income, etc)
• Asking for personal or professional details in DM (such as location, current job, or skills)
• Asking people to share their profiles (such as LinkedIn or Upwork)
• Offering collaboration in DM without prior public communication
• Starting unsolicited Slack huddles or calls with people you don’t know
• Continuing one-on-one communication after requests to cease
• Seeking connections only with people from a specific country or region (such as asking only for members from the US)

Unsolicited calls and huddles

Do not start Slack huddles or calls with people you don’t know without asking first.

Huddles and calls are only okay if you already know each other and the other person agrees to it. If you want to talk with someone, send a text message first - in a public channel or in DM - and ask if they are open to a call. Wait for a yes before calling.

Unsolicited huddles or calls with strangers are not allowed and will be treated as a violation of these guidelines.

Geographically targeted connection requests

Our community is global and open to everyone. When you take part here, be open to connecting with all members. Do not limit your outreach to people from a specific country or region.

Posts or messages that specifically seek out members from one country or region are not allowed.

Examples:

• Looking to connect with US citizens
• Only people from the US please reply
• Seeking members based in Europe or North America for a private opportunity

Such messages will be removed. Members who repeatedly post them may be banned.

We treat this as a red flag because requests that target people from specific countries are a common sign of fraud or spam. A typical pattern is the freelancing account scam, where someone asks a member from the US, Canada, or Europe to lend their account or front for them. Read more in suspicious job postings.
